Mallard Landing Retirement Community, adjacent to Schumaker Pond Park, is a unique choice in independent retirement living. Here, retirement has been redesigned for your pleasure. Residents can choose to purchase a condominium (apartment or cottage), or you also have the option to lease the residence. There is no upfront fee to purchase a unit.
Our purpose here is to make our retirement as pleasurable and as easy as we can, and that can include you.

For most it simply means living comfortably in retirement and enhancing your leisure time by doing what pleases you. As residents, we have a range of services to make our lives more comfortable. Often it’s the little things that our staff does for us such as taking us shopping or arranging house cleaning services. Other times it might be social activities in the Pub or entertainment after dinner. What it does not include are all the chores you’ll be glad not to worry about anymore, such as mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, or being tied to the kitchen.

Independent Living at Mallard Landing
Navigating health care decisions later in life isn’t always clear-cut. Everyone ages at their own pace, leading to a wide range of needs across the spectrum. When deciding to choose Independent Living as a lifestyle, an individual should believe that they will be reasonably self-sustaining hopefully for many years.
“Independent Living” is as advertised. It assumes that the individual can perform the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, hygiene, dressing, toileting, transferring and eating. Sometimes a prospective resident needs more frequent access to professional nursing care. Our community does not provide assistance with these tasks or nursing. The same goes for an individual who needs constant care, one who is at risk of falling or is not capable of making the decisions of daily life. If you need these services, you should consider professional nursing care or Assisted Living at Lakeside at Mallard Landing, our sister facility on our campus (www.lakesideatmallardlanding.com).
Mallard Landing Retirement Community welcomes all who choose to live in our community. However, all those who would consider relocating here should know there are no medical or nursing support services for Independent Living residents. We are a true independent-living community.

Mallard Landing Clubhouse*
Our vibrant Mallard Landing clubhouse provides residents with ongoing social and physical activities, creative workshops, dining and transportation services. Whether you come for lunch or a glass of wine in the Pub, or dinner in the dining room, you will feel welcome.
Our community is convenient to Salisbury University, the Civic Center, shopping, numerous places of worship. TidalHealth Regional Hospital is less than five minutes away. Salisbury offers an extensive availability of medical facilities. And of course there are activities across the entire Delmarva Peninsula.
* Discovery Senior Living (DSL) manages the clubhouse and residents contract membership with them for Community Services
Companionship
One of the primary reasons people select an independent living community is for companionship. If you are seeking to reside in a community of people who look out for each other, who enjoy and participate in activities together, and some who will form your new circle of friends, this is an excellent choice.
Here are some of the ways in which we accomplish this (more detail is described in other areas of this website) – casual dining, happy hour in the Pub, BBQ’s on the terrace, lots of holiday parties, chapel services, the Men’s Hour, and many others.
Assisted Living
While we all hope we never need special care, occasionally we do. As residents of Mallard Landing we have access to Lakeside at Mallard Landing which is the assisted living section of the Mallard community on our campus. Below is the link to their website.
